Groundhog Asks: “Who cares about the weather in Punxsutawney, anyway?”
January 17, 2003 – Manchester – “Connecticut Chuckles”, the venerable
groundhog who resides at the Lutz Children’s
Museum, has spoken. Scratching his head with his long black fingernails,
Chuck said recently “This Phil guy makes the hair on the back of my neck stand
on end. I’d like to see a grand jury investigate him. Someone should really
ask to see his credentials.” Chuck is clearly upset. Despite his advancing
age, he takes Connecticut weather very seriously. He is keenly aware of his
celebrity status as Connecticut’s official groundhog and his flawless record.
He has been busy preparing by consulting with meteorologists, examining
satellite photos and reading his farmer’s almanac.
Individuals
interested in an accurate prediction of Connecticut’s weather are invited to
be present when Chuckles presents his findings. Festivities begin at sunrise
(7:03 AM) on Groundhog’s Day (February 2). Political leaders and prominent
citizens are expected to rise early that morning to toast Chuckles with a hot
cup of coffee and a groundhog shaped cookie.
Groundhog Gala activities for children and their families occur later that
day. Call the museum at (860) 643-0949 for more information and directions.
